Losing in “Good Taste”

I recently found out that Death by King Cake was nominated for Best Short Film, Best Producer, and was a finalist for The Bob Saget Award for Best Comedy at the 15th Annual Taste Awards, which are often called “the Oscars of Food, Fashion & Lifestyle Media.”

I was excited when I got the email from The Taste Awards informing me of the good news – especially when I found out that Alica Silverstone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Harry Styles, and Oprah Winfrey were being honored for their significant impact in the world of taste and broadcast entertainment.

The awards were held in Beverly Hills on Monday, March 11, 2024. I could not attend, but Matthew Sauvé, one of the DBKC actors, could. Unfortunately, Death by King Cake did not win any categories in which it was nominated. Still, the cast and crew were honored and humbled that our film was a part of such a spectacular event – mainly being considered for The Bob Saget Award for Best Comedy. SNL’s Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph won for their television series “BAKING IT.” If you’re going to lose a comedy award, what better two comedians to lose to?

I know I must not be selfish after winning the Ruth Buzzi Award for Comedy, but I must admit that it would have been wonderful to win another award named after a comedy legend. I admired Bob’s standup and work on “Full House” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” Thank you, Bob Saget, for bringing the world joy and laughter – may you rest in peace.

And congrats to Amy and Maya… Bob would be thrilled that you two talented ladies received his award.

Keep Laughing!

- David
