David Carstens Luck was born in Roswell, New Mexico – which explains his extranormal disposition and odd behavior – on January 29, 1965 (the same birthday as Oprah Winfrey and Tom Selleck). He is an air force brat who has traveled all over the world and spent his childhood in places such as the Azores and Guam until his father, Major Glenn M. Luck, USAF retired in Alexandria, Louisiana – where David’s mother, Janie Carstens Luck is from – in 1975. Janie’s family, the Carsten’s, own Schnack’s Fine Jewelry, which was established in 1865. David currently resides in Lafayette, but visits Alexandria often for work and to see his sister, Abbie.

This central Louisiana native is a true believer in intensive laughter psycho-therapy and uses humor to explicate life. David got an early start in his writing career by working at KALB-TV as an ad writer in creative services and eventually as a producer/entertainment reporter in the news department.

“Too Fat to Dance” was David’s first novel. The southern comedy was published in 2009. “I love this story and I feel it’s one of my best – but this comedy became an instant gratification for me, and I wish I would have taken the time to edit it correctly before I published it,” admits Luck. “All in all, the beautiful story outweighs the minor errors.”

In 2014, David wrote his second comedy, Southern Fried Life (which was edited properly). He then took on filmmaking and soon developed the comedy short films Brunch before Baptism (2018) and A Stand for Damaged Fame (2020) along with his good friend, Kent Arceneaux. Both films have won numerous awards and he couldn’t be prouder of them.
