2023 Year In Review

What a fantastic year 2023 was for Best of Luck Homegrown Comedies!
My comedy short, Death by King Cake, won over 40 film festivals and is
still going strong! The film festivals that many of the cast and crew attended last year were excellent, but four stood out.

In August 2023, the LOL JAX Film Festival in Jacksonville, Florida welcomed DBKC with several nominations and six wins! October 2023 was another incredible month for the film. We took home 2nd place in the Home Grown and Best Short Narrative Categories at the Lake Charles Film Festival - which was a huge honor because the fest took place in Louisiana!

November 2023 currently didn’t disappoint. DBKC won Best Comedy and Best Original Story at the Peach Theatre & Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. And rounding off the top film festivals in 2023 would be the Billy the Kid Fest in Hico, Texas. Not only did Death by King Cake win the Viewer’s Choice Award, but we also won The Ruth Buzzi Award for Best Comedy! After winning this prestigious prize for pantomime named after a comedy legend, I felt that if DBKC never wins another award, this would be okay – who am I kidding?!

I’m hoping the film does just as well in 2024. Searching for and receiving praise for laughter is an addiction of mine.

Here is what is to come in 2024:

  • More film festivals

  • Completing my cookbook “A Box and a Bottle”

  • Death by King Cake available on the website

  • More exciting news and Updates

I wish to thank all of you for supporting my passion, and I look forward to
taking you on my journey to support laughter in 2024!

Many Thanks,
David
