My Refrigerator...My Reflections

Every time I open my refrigerator, I feel a nostalgic happiness from Coca-Cola, Howard Johnson’s Clams, family & friends' photos, Hamburger Helper, Franken Berry, and the classic rock group YES… just a few tokens of joy.

I don’t know what made me turn my fridge into a collage of beautiful memories. At my age, there should be doctor and veterinarian appointment cards on the old icebox instead of magnets of fast-food chains, Blockbuster, and an autographed photo of Lily Tomlin. I may have gotten this idea as a kid at Lou & Laura’s Po’boys. Behind the counter was a hodgepodge of photos of customers – mainly when they were in their youth.

There's something safe and reassuring about standing in front of my refrigerator, now a symbol of wonderful retro memories. Visiting this time warp, which keeps my eggs fresh and water cool, several times a day brings a smile to my face.

This magical kitchen appliance makes me appreciate my life even more than I already do. I look at these marvelous magnets and go back in time to when eating at a fast-food restaurant, renting a movie, or listening to every song on an album was a huge treat.

In this crazy and sometimes unfair world we live in, my festive fridge serves as an escape and adds to the bubble I choose to live in.

Life is hard enough as it is; take time to reflect on what makes you happy, even if you decide not to cover your refrigerator with memories of junk food and chain motels.

Remember to reflect and laugh every day!
